Voice of the Martyrs sent out the newest issue of their newsletter. I signed up to get this information and to know how to pray for Christian believers all over the world as well as the non-believers touched by them. Several interesting things were specified, like, Pastor Cai Zhouhua, a Chinese house church pastor, who was sent to prison for 3 years for preaching the love of Jesus Christ. While there he and other prisoners (not just Christians) were forced to make the soccer balls used by the 2008 Olympic teams. Pray for China and remember to do so with this prayer bracelet.
Another photo displayed is from Iran where a man shares Jesus' love with a Muslim boy who has been specially chosen as a fundamental Shiite Muslim and is ready to give up his life for Allah. Now in the picture this boy wears specific clothing and a headband that signifies his readiness to do so. The boy looks to be about 9 or 10 years old yet he has been marked for a future martyrdom, possibly.
The executive director of VOM, Tom White, was sentenced to 24 years in a Cuban prison for passing out gospel literature, a sentence that has a maximum 15 year penalty for it. Cuba broke its own laws when sentencing him.
In Sudan, there is an opportunity to send blankets and a Bible. The blankets you would provide plus $2 shipping and handling fee/per blanket, while VOM would provide the book "He Lived Among Us."
It doesn't matter what religion you are, you should not be persecuted for it. Even if all religions are wrong in regards to the eternal question or even exclusive as all of them are, you should still be allowed to practice it freely and speak of it freely without condemnation by any other religion. That is tolerance by the way.
We in America suffer the flea bites of persecution compared to the Christians around the world. I am amazed and humbled by their stories of courage and faith. I am so glad to live in a country where I can worship freely and have many friends who also can worship in their own religion freely.
