Is it just me or are movies really coming out earlier and earlier from the original release. Didn't they used to take several years?

Alvin and the Chipmunks have had a long and interesting history. How fun for me to grow up enjoying them, and now G gets the same advantage, growing up listening to the Chipmunks. Who'd a thunk it? The Munks morph for every generation, heh.
